Setting up admin

Hey guys i need some help setting up admin on my server i know you put the steam id in a file but i dont know what one and how would i set the reserve slots so if the server is full and oneof the admins wants to join it will kick a random non admin player?

when i mean seting up admin i mean so other people who help pay i can allow to have admin also like on css

i dont think there is admin for left4dead servers yet althou i could be wrong.
if there is then please let me know but if im right then the only thing i can think of is to give your payers the rcon password and they can admin the server via rcon.
but i dont really see what use admin will be on a l4d server purely because admin is mainly used for dealing with idiot players but with this game you can call a vote to get rid of em.

lol thanks dude its mainlt to kick annoyin ppl yeah but so they can spawn things aswell like zombies change difficulty what ever. i know sourcemods and beetle are workin on a mani admin style admin so you dont need to remember all the console commands but theyre still in testing and beta phases. its mainly the reserve slot thing tho because if my servers full and one of my mates who is payin for server aswell wants to play he cant just connect. does anyone know how to set this up?

Hmm I don't like the sound of this :/
So some poor sods setup a game and end up on your server, only to get kicked by an admin who wants to play :/ Let alone then turning cheats on and spawning bosses etc.

Sounds like you'd be better off just passwording it and giving your friends rcon.

in reply to tostring i used the boss spawning as an example not sayin tht would happen on our server unless we're drunk n fancy a laugh and yeah why should the ppl who pay to play the server have to sit out of their own server wen theres a bunch of randoms on there? and to bee yes mate i could p/w it but then defeats the objective of havin it private all i wanna do is keep it public but then me and the other 2 ppl who pay for the server have reserve slots so if it is full we can join our own server why does that sound unfair? its always worked that way on counter strike and tf2

I dunno I just think it's harsh/rude that someone could be directed to your server through the lobby with 3 friends, play through a campaign for a couple of hours and then get kicked by an admin for no reason.

But if that's what you want to do... I wouldn't even bother looking for a way to get 'reserved slots' (which probably doesn't exist yet anyway) - just kick one of them and join.

The way i do it, is if there is 4 players on there and they have been on for more then 40mins+ then there server is there's until there done

well thats fair enough guys your entitled to the way u wanna play. Anyways does anyone know how to even setup admin for just me i typed sv_cheats 1 in console and it said only server adminstartor can run that command or somethin?? and i am sevrer admin im the only 1 i dont have a clue how to set this up can someone help me please?

Mukla: As everyone said, there is no admin on L4D server. What you can do is use rcon. First set the rcon password by putting the following in your server .cfg:

rcon_password "yourpassword"

Then in game, first set the rcon password in your client by entering the same line into your console.

After that, you can execute server commands by preceding them with rcon, for example:

rcon sv_cheats 1

or

rcon kick "Mukla"

Alternately, you can download and install HLSW from http://www.hlsw.org/ which will allow you to monitor and admin the servers. Again, you will will need to set the rcon password in your server config and enter it into HLSW as well.
