MOTD & Banner Problems

We took on a server a couple of weeks ago and everything has been pretty schweet, except we can't get our MOTD and Banner to work consistantly.

We've tried hosting the pics (in the relevant resoulutions shown on Left4Dead411.com) on Picturebucket and on a friend's server but this has not been a good experience

Can anyone point us in the right direction and maybe provide an idiot's guide as to what to do and where?

We've edited the host and motd .txt files with details to set the server looking at Picture bucket or a one line html to find them where our friend hosted them on their server/website but even though the MOTD worked for a couple of times, the Banner hasn't worked more than once.

Also: as INX Gaming offer free webhosting, is this something we can perhaps use? I just didn't want to dash out and buy a domain name, but will if we need to, but if we can use some of this space for the jpgs that would be great.
