As an industry we do have to be aware, not *dominated* by, but still aware of how the images we portray affect people. This is one of the things that I liked about Metal Gear Solid: Meryl was really kinda average. She was a believable character, and you can understand why Snake fell for her. She wasn't stick thin, she had a sort of average body in the grand scheme of things. She's also one of the very few red haired ladies in gaming! Suzie, thank you for the valuable insight!
